Default Carb question on a 88 Electra Glide

Hey Guys,

I am putting a Keihin cv carb from a 99 Dyna on my 88 Electra Glide and the cables are different. Does anyone know what cables I need to switch to? I will try to match them at the dealer, I need the new ones to be longer out of the casing. I had a S&S super E shorty on it so I'm thinking the cables are made to fit just the S&S as they do on others. Any suggestions are appreciated.

I believe the 1988 EG has threaded cable end and a 1999 dyna has smooth ??? So you will need custom cables. Check out www.magnumshielding.com and give them a call. I could be wrong about the cable ends tho.

just swap to stock type cables for a 1990 ( 1st year CV) model.

throttle- 56327-90
idle-56328-90

these were used to 1995.
1996 the bar controls changed

or IF you can find a shop that still makes cables, you can get the ends and attach to your cables, cutting off your old ends.

you'll have to figure out a bracket for the choke/enricher- i used cable ties.

you'll also need a spigot adapter- the "mikuni mount" rubber adapter is about $15

check your intake compliance fittings- good time to swap to a solid manifold.

and you'll need brackets or spacers for the aircleaner assembly which supports the carb

Thanks Mike,
I have an adapter for the intake, I was going to put it on my sportster and it wouldn't fit because the petcock got in the way. I'll try the cables for the 90, I sort of figured that would work, just needed to run it past someone else. I have a couple of air filter assemblies I think I can make an old football style fit it. I'll let you know how it works,

STEVE

the 1988 + sporty also use the CV carb ( but no accel pump on that version) so cables would work if you have some.

the throttle side grip is a 1981+ part

my cv carbs are modded using the tips on the nightrider.com/bike tech/cv carb mods

.45 low speed, sporty n65 needle and .175 high speed jet with chamfered and drilled slide.

BTW there is an Evo forum where guys fix stuff and are good on what fits what.

many of the riders on this forum have late models.

Mike
