Seems grips have the life expectancy of digital oil gauges. Gets cool enough for warm hands...purchase some hand/toe warmers in the hunting/gun section of walmart.
Put them in your gloves/shoes.....back pocket. Use them as/where needed. Each packet lasts about 6 hours.
2011 Road glide heated grips feeling after seven months
Barley rode the bike at night
Seven months later I took it out for a ride after had my heated grips installed and they stop working on me
The Harley mechanic says that if you were to adjust the grips temperature by twisting the ****, the part where is out in the group fails to heat up anymore,
he suggested that I set the grips at one temperature and put a switch in the somewhere to disconnect the grip so I don't twist the **** I keep the setting at one place.
I can't believe Harley would solve such a piece of junk if it doesn't work because it was not cheap to install and that was not cheap to buy
I got charged $200 for two hours install with external wiring for the labor and $250 for the grip
I was told that the grips are only wanted for three months and I would have to pay to do it all over again
The dealer offered to give me a new set of grips but he still wants me to pay the labor
And no guarantee that those New heated grips will last , I was just told that it was just bad luck that it failed
And that the new replacement group should last longer than seven months
My heated grips stopped working a few weeks ago on my 2011 FLHTK. I'll get them replaced next season. I don't use them very often. When I do, I don't turn them up past 2 or 3.
Had to understand how heated grips can last for years on a snowmobile and just a couple or few years on a motorcycle.
My '13 grips are working fine but I also have heated gloves (which I believe are much warmer) and I use them together with the grips on 2-3 and then turn the gloves up to where I'm comfortable.
On my 2011 FLHTK my grips are still working fine. I don't turn them past 2.
Had some on my 11 flhx. On 2 my hands were toasty and is frequently have to turn them back to 1. I had the no frills plain old black rubber set that goes for around 199$. Never had any problems.
I'm now using heated Warm and Safe heated gloves. why heat your palms when you can heat the entire hand??? Got the Warm and Safe heated liner with wireless heat controller, too. TERRIFIC.
Sg- Jay--I just installed some harley streamliner heated grips internally on monkey bars. Notched the grip and switch housing to get the wires inside. Then pulled them with the control bundle. Not fun, but it can be done.
About three years on the 11, were still working when i got the 14, 14's still going, don't think i have gone past 2, pretty warm there, i really like em
