Well this may not be my problem anyway. Mine worked coming home and the next day it didn't. My manual has a diag test an according to it, my problem is the throttle position senor. Whatever and wherever that is. I don't understand why it would work one day and not the next. This test said I should get the green light with turning the ignition on holding the set switch to set I think, then to resume and I'm supposed to get the green light in both cases and I did. The next step said do a roll off with throttle and I think it said the light should blink. That never happened. So I thought I'd just try this disconnect trick hoping maybe the throttle just was slightly out of adjustment. I do hit the brake to cancel so it would be not big deal. In fact I wasn't even aware a roll off would do that. Learn more darn stuff here!

Oh, yeah, the 'good one day bad the next' happened to me and this was the cure...easiest thing to try, worth the first shot.

Got another question in relation to all this then. I do think I found the wires. What I found is a bundle that looks like a cable or something with an additional double wire connector. Hope that's the right thing. It started but I've not gone out to see if anything doesn't work. My question is, could this roll off throttle thing be why when I hit set at the speed I want, the bike drops 2 mph then slowly creeps back up those 2 and on to 2 or 3 mph more until I'm over where I set it? Sometimes even more than 3 mph over.

Probably not connected to the connectors...as it were...but, removed them from the cable, see if that problem goes away...be aware that many cruise controls are such that when you hit the button, and don't maintain constant throttle pressure until the CC kicks in, the speed will drop for a second or two until the CC senses the speed...never had the speed go up, however...

Dang you are fast. Thanks. This may not be my problem. The diag approach I went through indicated I had a bad throttle position sensor. This was worth a try but I won't know anything until it warms up. It's still freaking cold here but is supposed to get warmer today. Again.....Thanks

I had the same symptoms on my Ultra when I got it. The guy who owned the bike before me never used the cruise control. I simply worked the rocker switch on the dash about 30 times, and it worked fine for a few days. So, I did another 30 or so and it's been fine ever since, 11 months now. If you don't use it, you loss it!

Well I wasn't lucky. Disconnect made no difference. So, being the time of year very few are riding I took it to the dealer. They figured it would be a quick fix too. I never checked to see if the rear brake worked. I just check to see if the brakes were activated and they were not. First thing they found was the rear brake switch didn't work at all so they figured they had it. That wasn't it. So they said there was one other easy to fix switch. That wasn't it either. So after 2 hours they said it was going to be a much more expensive and time consuming fix. So I left it since we was supposed to get some nasty weather anyway. They now say it's either the tach or the cruise control module itself. Both being more expensive and a little harder to correct. Nothing is ever the simple fix for me. So one more time my extend warranty pays off. They don't even keep either part in stock for my "antique". An 07 and already nearly that to dealers!
