I had a set of Slipstream Heated Grips P/N#56100027 installed on my 2015 Ultra Limited. I was not happy with the switch housing on the left grip so I decided to see if I could correct the issue. Long story short, I removed the left grip from the handlebar and disconnected the internal wire from the grip. Everything that I have read has said the end of the wire/connector should extend past the end of the handlebar, it doesn't, it is about 5 inches from the end of the handlebar, I have a mechanical grabber that I am able to grab the end but it does not want to come out. I have removed the front fairing, which is pretty simple to do, but I cannot locate anything that may or may not be the wire that connects the left grip to the right grip. Has anyone had this issue?
Thanks for the response. The grips have both an external harness to connect to the electrical caddy of the bike to supply voltage and an internal wire to connect to the right grip.
When I got home after having them installed I noticed that the trigger on the left switch housing, which is used to cycle through the odometer on the speedometer was sticking out a little further than normal, also, the switch housing, where the front and rear pieces come together was not meeting all the way, there was a gap, so I decided to investigate.
So it sounds like you weren't happy with the installation, not so much the grips themselves, right?
Who did the install? I'd be headed back to them to make it right.
By the way, doesn't the '15 Limited come with heated grips? My '14 did...
I am very particular about things, I guess it something I learned in the Navy, attention to detail. The guys at the dealership are really good and I appreciate all that they do, but, if I am going to pay the labor rate on a $30K motorcycle, they better get it to my liking. Yes, I will be taking it back to them to get it right.
On my 2014 FLHTK, the left hand heated grip connects to the right hand heated in the middle of the bars (black / white connector). Heated grip power comes fro the fairing (red / black connector).
Update. I was able to reconnect the left grip. I had to remove the aux lamps/turn signals, outer fairing, ignition switch, accessory panel and rotate the inner fairing. A service manual is a definite must! I was then able to locate the wire harness and feed it through past the end of the handle bar and reconnect the left grip. The entire procedure took less than an hour.
