The first timeI put the jiffy stand down was at the dealers. The bike rolled foward and I ran to try to "save it". The dealer and salesman cracked up laughing. They then explained to me how the thing works... Even now, knowing that the stand is ok, my heart goes into my throat when I get off and the bike rolls. Just tough to get used to I guess..

Great post, that drives me nuts too... When I first got my EG I thought it was gonna fold up and let the bike fall!

Count me in as a frequent freaker for frightful forward flight.
I hates it, I'm still not used to it. But it does make me check and recheck my bike.

I have a 1991 FXRP and the spring does not bring it up completly so it hits the ground everytime i turn left. Replaced the spring and there is another spring under the engine, but it does not appear to do anything.

Yeah I get a small heartattack when mine shifts forward a bit.
I like to call it my "iffy stand"

Yeah, it is unsettling at first for sure. Way back when i got my road king and brought it home and got off it, it did the roll forward thing in the driveway and the wife about had a heart attack diving to save the bike... that, was hillarious. But, it is normal, i don't even think about it anymore.

I've only had mine a week and haven't noticed any rolling yet...but I always park on a slight uphill grade whenever possible - second nature after 35 years, I guess - so I may or may not run into this sometime soon. Good to know it's normal if and when I see it - but I guarantee you, I'll still dive to try and 'save' it!!

This little Jiffy stand feature of rolling forward or backward a bit, yet still being locked down so-to-speak, faked me out recently. I was polishing my chrome rims and decided to roll the bike forward to advance the wheels to a point that needed cleaning/polishing. Well, instead of getting on the bike and duck-walking it a foot or so forward, or starting it and driving it forward, I got lazy and decided to stand beside the bike and push it forward. Well, what a dumb-*** move that turned out to be....as soon as I got the bike upright and rolling forward the kick stand scraped along the driveway and swung up and back into it's fully closed position. I was a bit off center as it was and the bike started to lean to the left and over it came despite my putting all 260 lbs. of me against it's 900 plus pounds. Well, fortunately, it just came to rest on the highway peg mounted on the engine guard and just left a tiny scuff mark on the peg.

I was thinking the "Jiffy" stand would stay locked down but obviously that is only true if there's enough weight on it to hold it down.......like I say, "dumb-*** move" on my part. How did I manage to get the bike upright? Fortunately my wife and the cleaning lady were home that day and with them pulling on the right hand holds on the right side of the bike and me prying upward on the low side it popped right up.

I apologize in advance to those readers who dislike wordy posts and dumb-asses such as myself.

Read your story above - you could easily upright the bike yourself. Dropped my whip in the driveway 2 days after I got it trying to mimic that dumb **** circle 8 MSF box. The bike shut off and registered the tilt indicator on the speedo. Embarrassed as I looked around to see who saw the mishap.... Lock the wheel and you are good to go.
