I took the stand apart and notice some slop in the square cut out that goes around the main part of the stand.
Is this from where all of you experience that the play/slop (or most of it at least) originates too?
For me it is, but it's hard to tell from most of the answers.

You're asking a question to a ghost that hasn't been on here on almost 6 years............just saying.

NO. I'm asking those who have replied in the thread and really just anyone reading this who have had the same experience.
Did you really read my question?

Those who replied to the thread 8 yrs ago or those who just replied to your post? Those who replied to your post were just letting you know the last reply was 8 years ago so the odds of you getting a reply are pretty slim. You could always try to PM the people who replied between the original post in 2007 and the last reply in 2014. You never know

Read the whole thread. The play/slop is normal. They all do that.

I have read the whole thread, hence my question...
A lot of people are experiencing the same thing, but only one person mentions a cause.
So my question was just that if all of those who experience the same thing relate it to the same cause - the tolerance in the squared fitting where the lock tab mounts to the jiffy.

Good Luck, Jim
To anyone experiencing the same thing really.
Since it's a common "problem" and my post relates to the topic and almost every post in it, I just thought I'd post here instead of starting a new one.
The tab is cut to be narrower at the tip than the end where the bolt is located. This allows the tab to go into the slot without being precisely aligned. Otherwise it could be very difficult to get it correctly lined up when deploying the stand. By design it allows for some slop.
I think its a good design myself. One of my few complaints about my Indian was the stand. It had no way to stop from rolling right off of it when parked on a forward incline. I either had to leave it in gear or find a level spot. I was concerned enough about it that I bought a parking brake thing for it.
