First - glad you are OK & didn't get hurt. Next - ^^^^ this is what I was wondering. Was the speed slow enough - meaning <25MPH - that the front & rear linking was deactivated, & did the ABS system engage correctly?

GF should be looking for a new guy to go riding with. He hit someone he was following, and he knew where she was going (no unexpected turns). WTF? don't misplace blame.

New rider?
I just started riding last November. Put 13k miles on my sportster and traded for the Road King. I've definitely improved a lot as a rider since then, but of course there's still a lot of room for more improvement.

My bike doesn't have ABS. I locked up the rear wheel.

The accident was definitely my fault. I should have given her a little more room going into that turn, but no unexpected turns does not mean no unexpected braking. And mid turn. She got cut off. S#!+ happens.

Common mistake for new riders. (And old time riders)

Still don't understand the fascination with the rear brake.

Have you had any training? If not, sign up now for a basic course and then do advanced and any other ones you can.

Do you wear gear?

Glad it wasn't worse!

glad you're OK, and I am not bashing you. At least your man enough to admit where the fault was, unlike the yahoos that say they would dump the girl.

Live and learn (we all do). Be safe.

In a turn, it is far better to lock the rear wheel than the front. Too much front brake in a turn gets ugly quick.

As you correctly stated, sh-- happens. Good that you can walk away from your mishap with nothing more than damage to the bike. The bike can be fixed and look at it as an opportunity to make changes that will personalize the look of the bike. Having totaled a bike with some lasting issues from injuries sustained, gives me a better perspective of what having an accident is all about. And if life gives you lemons, learn to make lemonade.
