Went to get gas today and stopped dead about 1/2 mile from the house. Wasn't getting fuel or no steady pressure .took the gas cap off and tried starting it .could see a spray inside the tank .pushed it home and used my handy-dandy gas tank tool to remove the ring and removed the pump assemble. Found a broken ear on the fuel filter housing where the horse shoe type pin holds the top plate and the filter housing together.
Glad I wasn't 150 miles away from home .like the day before on a ride.
See pictures Happy New Year.

Even after the recall and with the upgraded housing, I've already replaced mine once again. I plan on doing it every 25k miles. Upon inspection I could still see weakening around the tabs.
Just back from HD and they only had one in stock….New part # has a 'B' after it. Wasn't a where of a recall on this part….The new one is definitely re-enforced where the clip slide's in.
I check it every 25k when I change the filter and just looked at it 5k ago and didn't see anything….Glad I was near home.
My tool was made from a piece of junk pvc its about 5 1/2 inch OD and 1/2 thick. Was some type of coupler…I had to open the one end to fit the ring….and cut the teeth….other than that pretty simple and didn't cost $125.

Up an running!!!! Negative on a pattern but next time you change your filter just lay the ring on a piece of cardboard and trace it…..Thats what I did and then worked from that for fit…..
