Is doing a big bore kit yourself within the abilities of someone like myself? I did cams through the top but no other engine work. How many specialty tools are required? What advice would you give?
FM has videos about half way down the page below. Watch them and see if you think it's something you can do. You know your abilities better than anyone else.

What he said. Between them and YouTube videos, it was an easy job for the mechanically inclined. It was actually much easier than I thought and if I were to do it again I'm sure I'd cut the time in half. I even cracked the cases and replaced the crank with a plugged and welded one. As to special tools, from what I remember... cam bearing puller and installer, dial gauge to check runout, camgear lock tool, HD specialty wrenches for the rocker bolts and intake bolts and I think that's it.
How about the piston wrist pin locks? Seems like a pain in the video? Is there a tool for inserting them or just do it in the way it's shown in the video with a small screw driver and a piece of plastic?

The wrist pin locks can be a pain , but the tool is not necessary for a one off job. There are only four locks and there is no guessing if they are installed correctly. You can tell.
Take your time and confirm they are in place and you're good to go.
Getting the cam chest cover off was my biggest pain in the ***. The wrist pins weren't that bad once u get ur bearings.
First start my wife came out for it. I got excited, she came out, hit the start button and... Nothing! I had to carry my wife inside cause she was laughing so loud, told ya to let a mechanic do it. In my excitement I didn't put the fuse back in. I shut her up 10 minutes later
What are you running for and exhaust and are you using a canned map from FM?
V&H true duals with basic V&H slip ons. Currently running a canned map from FM but I have a Dynojet auto tune on the way to get it fine tuned (which it desperately needs). Low RPM roll on of the throttle are a bit choppy. I sure hope the autotune can take care of that.
