Default 1994 ultra classic worth?

Hi fellas,

Been a while since I last posted. My 94 flstn was stolen back in Aug! Bastards! So now that all the dust has settled I am looking for another bike. Came upon a 94 ultra classic on craigslist. It looks nice. 6 speed trans, 6 quart polished oil pan, S and S oil pump, two oil coolers, S and S crank case and crank. 2000 on upper and 5000 on lower. 42000 on chassis. All black is powder coated. Screaming eagle rims. asking 7k too much?

Thoughts?

Honestly I think you could get a lot newer bike for a similar price. I would personally go for something in the twin-cam era (2000+). Will make getting parts and stuff easier. I had a 1996 Road King and it was getting difficult to find some parts for it. Although there is quite a big aftermarket for older EVO carb'd bikes still.. so you will probably be OK.

I don't follow the used market but keep in mind most people say aftermarket parts add basically no value in resale.. so perhaps check out other similar year bikes and see what they sell for.

X2 bike sales are in the grapper. It's a buyers market.

The bike you describe sounds like it has been tastefully upgraded, however when I make a purchase I want to be the one who does the upgrades.

There are many low milage garage queens out there unmolested that are going for $6K, that's what I would be hunting for...jmho

my biggest question would be the quality of the motor work...

with a stock motor ( and close to stock bike) you know what you are getting...

"custom" means that there are more variables- and in every way when the bike needs work, a fair amount of time spent will be trying to figure out what work and what parts have been done prior and how it affects the current concern

so to me, pricing seems high.

IF the motor work was done by a known shop with known good results and came with all the records, great.

but the price is still too high.

questions such as the 6 Speed- Baker good/ revtech bad...

Luckily that would be a carb bike- I ( me ) would NOT have any H-D EFI before 2007.

and that is why I stayed on my 1995 FLHTC until 2010 when i bought a 2009 FLHTC.

at that time I sold a perfect 1995 FLHTC with records, stage 1 and 83,000 miles for 7K.

it took me about 3 months to find the right buyer- until then I had all kinds of time-wasters with stupid offers.

It's up to you to determine if the value the seller places on the bike is close to the value it has to you.

As for Evos, the aftermarket is full of great parts and support- you'll never have to see a HD dealer in your life ( and they'll probably be unable to help you out anyways)

Mike

Pic needs work...but as Mike says, depends on the quality of the build, it seems odd to have 2K on the top and 5k on the bottom, ya'd think they'd both have 5K if it was done right.

For 7k If you want an evo - I would go for a 97 or 98, much easier to get parts for and easier to make more modern. For a twinkie - 99 to 06's will be in the $ range as well. Would not spend 7k on a 94 bagger regardless if it had a 6 speed and an S&S motor...

600 bucks or less to covert the MM FI to carb, lots of steps by steps with part numbers and pics on this site and others, easy - peasy

99-06's cam chain tensioner solutions are available at all levels of budget and benefits

There is not a generation of Glides built yet that didn't have issues...

We have an Evo section who are up to speed on bikes like that, where you can get a second opinion! A few of us have owned them from new and are still finding parts for them, or ways around stuff we can't get any more. If you go ahead and buy it give us a visit - with decent photos!
