I have a 2009 Road glide my clutch won't engage till it's all the way out or close to it. I would like it coming off the handle without a lot of slop when not engaged. I've adjusted the screw to 1/2 turn and it's pretty much the same. Anyone know the answer? I have read a couple of clips and before I do it I would like some reassurance so I don't keep working on it. Little help!

Hi, Welcome to the Forums.

adjust the clutch so that it works to either transfer the power to the tranny- or not transfer the power...so no slipping, no grabbing.

and then adjust the cable so that the lever action is correct- on most bikes that involves just tightening the cable until the lever is about .40 away from the rest ( some use a dime for a gauge).

basically do exactly what the manual says- ignore opinions ( mine too!)...I think for my bike about 5/8 turn is where I had my best action...and i was test riding and removing the cover and adjusting as I went.

1.) the HD EZ pull clutch since 2007 uses a longer lever in the tranny end cover...this makes hand effort easier ( which riders complained about) BUT at the expense of making adjustment fiddly--- and less "positive lever feel ( I think).

2.) changing the type of primary fluid leaves about 10 to 15% of the old fluid in the primary- if the fluids are incompatible then the clutch may be more likely to slip...so the owner's adjustment efforts are all out of whack

All you need to do is slacken up the cable adjustment.. There will be a little more slop without when not pulled.. If the lever rattles, replace the rattle clip..

Hi from the UK and welcome to HDF. The correct process is to slacken the cable using the adjuster part way along it, then adjust at the clutch, finally set slack using the cable adjuster. Sounds as if you may have skipped part of that!
