I am interested in hearing from anyone who has or has used the SESPT and how satisfied they are with it. I am going to add SE mufflers and air cleaner and do not plan on doing any other mods except perhaps cams down the road. Stock head pipe is still on the bike. I am on a budget, do my own wrenching, so the SESPT looks like a good deal for me. I am also curious as to what the Smart Tune Live feature actually does. Will it also make changes to the ECM.
I like the screaming eagle Pro super tuner a lot more than the street performance tuner. On the street performance tuner every thing is "view only" except the air fuel ratio. On the pro super tuner all the constants are changeable. the pro is more expensive but worth it to me.
just my 2 cents.
Jblass if a stage-I is all you plan on doing consider Nightrider's FL-ViED-10 at about $120.oo
they are adjustable for your Air Fuel Ratio same as the SE-Street tuner dose. At half the price
you can save your money for an aftermarket tuner if you do more engine work.
The TTS is considerably more expensive than the SESPT (SE Street Performance Tuner) however is comparable with the SEPST (Pro Super Tuner). It would have been nice if Harley had a little more distinct name for their tuners.
I don't mean to hijack the thread, but it would be nice to have a little more clarification on the topic of tuners, specifically the SE tuners. Sure there are lots of information on the web and in this forum on tuners but you can spend a lot of time researching and still not get any further ahead. I don't mind paying the price for a good quality product, but I don't like to pay for something I don't need. I look at the price difference between the Street and the Pro tuner as a couple more days on the road touring.
I also opted for the Pro Super Tuner but only because the Street Tuner is not available in Canada for some reason. Since it was my first tuner I was also looking for one that I can use myself with a smart tune and was supported by the local shops. I didn't want to "ball park" it with ViED/XiED or use a piggyback tuner, which also may be more than adequate. I am now waiting for spring to roll around to finish the Smart Tune.
Yes, I understand the Pro Super Tuner is more feature rich allowing more tunability but does the average Joe really need all the extra parameters in the Pro Tuner? I may be wrong, but it looks like the Street Tuner gives you the equivalence of a dealer download with the option to fine tune the VE tables with the Smart Tune runs. Do you really need more if all you are going to add is SE Slip-ons, stock header with CAT, an air cleaner and maybe a mild cam?
Quoted from Harley's store: "Street Tuner permits limited tunability within the emissions range to optimize drivability without compromising emission levels. It also features expanded tuning options outside the emissions range to optimize performance."
Does this mean you can richen the mixture up to make it run a little richer than the "EPA-compliant range"?
Only time will tell, with my rather basic Stage 1 I don't suspect I'll need to do more than fine tune the VE tables with some Smart Tune runs. I can't see needing to do much for timing changes with my basic build. So even though I can not get the cheaper Street Tuner here in Canada, are the added features of the Pro Tuner overkill and is the added cost then a waste for some users?
The street performance tuner is nothing more than a stage 1 download. I wasted my money on one, and now I use the power vision. I would not recommend it.
Thanks for the replies so far. I am still hoping to hear from more people who are currently using the SESPT or who have used it in the past and switched. My understaning of the SESPT is that with a supplied map it will adjust the A/F ratio within EPA guidelines, set the rev limiter to 6200, and adjust the VE tables with the Smart Tune feature. What will I be missing out on if I do not get a more feature full tuner like PV if I only put on some different mufflers and a A/C? My goal is to get better sound and some performance improvement.
With the street performance tuner you will be smart tuning a lot and won't be seeing the ve tables change much if at all. That's what I noticed while trying to smart tune with the sespt. The baseline map(stage 1 download) was lean as hell. Bike ran but very hot, and that with v&h dresser duals that I swapped for the stock headpipe with the cat. I wouldn't recommend the sespt. Even if your only plan is stage 1.
