Before they were officially released, I jumped the gun and pre-ordered the Vance & Hines Monster Squared pipes. I paid premium $$$; however, I am to the point where I just don't like them despite the money I've paid. I've installed the pipes and they look great. After a lot of miles, the pipes are still fairly quiet. From what I've learned I can't drill them out or install new baffles. Quiet pipes are appreciated when riding with groups, but I've found I do a whole lot more solo riding. I want a deep true bad *ss Harley sound, but not so loud they're deafening. No offense to anyone, but I would prefer to not go with Rinehart's. Nothing against them, it's just that I want something a little less common. Any suggestions?
2.) riders should go and hear other bikes before plunking down a bunch of cash on pipes...so many of the riders here are on their 3rd or 4th set of pipes.

You should have considered Vance & Hines HO 4.5 slip-ons(round cuts) deep, throaty, great sound and even better when you change out header pipes. I'll be changing out my header pipes later this year. But with just the slip-ons on the sound is terrific. Best choice I made.
I have the Monster Rounds and love the sound. Deep throaty sound and touring friendly. The HO's and 450's would also sound great. I would say look for a set of used mufflers and sell yours for as much as you can get.
I had the V&H 4 1/2" Oval slash cuts on my '13 RGU and they had a nice deep sound, but not real loud. I wanted to get rid of the cat in the head pipe and ended up buying a used V&H Pro Pipe. Just installed that last week and what a great sound! It has that deep Harley sound but not obnoxious. Then when you crack the throttle it roars! Love it.
