Default Fairing Rubber

Going to be upgrading the speakers in my 11 RGC. While the fairing is split I want to replace the rubber seal that goes between the two halves. It's ripped/torn in a couple places and the ends no longer stick. Looks like it should be a pretty straight forward operation but thought I'd ask if there are any tips or tricks to make the job easier and last longer. The RG is black denim if that matters. I'm understanding that I should pull off the old rubber, clean the area with alcohol or windex getting it clean as possible. I'm told there is a little bit of adhesive inside the new rubber...just press it on and let it set up, then reinstall front half. Is that about right?

Reason I'm asking before hand is I tried to do the same procedure on a Stratoliner and it didn't turn out so good. Appreciate it.

X-Trim is what I used but i understand you can also go to the auto parts store and get door trim that is quite a bit less expensive that looks similar.

Oh, I already went and got the new rubber from the dealer...not the best option? It wasn't very $$$ as far as HD parts go. I'm open to suggestions.

Did mine when I had the inner painted, don't remember any adhesive. It went on fine and didn't have any real problems with it. The sides were very easy, the middle piece wanted to come off at first, just took my time and kept light pressure on it. Never had a problem once installed.

Xcycletrim is an excellent replacement for the original.

Is Xcycletrim better than the HD brand? It's not too late to back up and regroup.

If want it to look good and protect it I use turtle wax ice paste. It is designed for black and rubber/plastic parts. I helps with it from drying out.
