I have a HD lock on my 03, got the same one on my bench ready to put on the 13 if and when it stops snowing here ( 40 inches last week 18 more this weekend)
I use full face helmets, I use the HD locks as an anchor point for nylon coated aircraft cable run thru the helmets and down to the lock.
You could just as easily accomplish the same thing with a padlock, looping the cable around a down tube and locking to the D ring on the helmet.
I made up crimped cables for short money, it doesn't have to be 1" thick, the thin stuff is fine. I coil them up and stuff them in the tour pack they take zero room
If someone wants your lid bad enough they will cut it off the bike, all you can do is make yours less available than the bike next to yours.
PS I find these things (from Drag) to be the best thing to make it easier to lock a helmet directly to any helmet lock
