Back in 2002 I listened to the Vance + Hines website looking for a set of slip on exhausts for my then new Road King. Got it right the first time. Lucky, maybe. I know a lot of guys who have 2-3 sets of pipes trying to get the right set up. Still have the RK and exhaust still sounds good.
The other day, I was looking for exhaust sound clips on my phone while in my car and the sound played over Bluetooth through my car speakers. The sound came alive! It was throaty and deep, coming from behind me, and sounded just like it did on my bike.
I've held the view for several years that when we each get into our Prius we should be able to select via the radio (or mobile device) what we want to sound like - Ferrari V12 - Corvette V8, drag bike, etc.........
If you aren't in a hurry wait until it gets warm and go to a bike night and check everyone's sound then.
I did a lot of that last year, but there isn't that much variety out there (maybe it's just my locale). Lots of Rineharts, RC Exhaust, and D&D, but beyond that it gets pretty thin. I really don't want to ride this year without my exhaust upgrade. Besides, I'm saving ~25% on labor and 20% on parts by doing it while the tundra is still frozen.

I understand that......last winter I got a deal on chrome lowers (parts and labor) and they picked my bike up and dropped it off for free.
I remember hearing that deep rumble years ago when as a child some of us would ride around with an Uncle driving that would lean way over and rip one that would even sound like an applause. A mean, loud rip, followed by windows getting cranked down - unless you were in the middle and consensus was against you.
I recorded my 'King with my phone and made clips and ringtones with it.
