Default New shocks, I know...

After riding my 2008 FLHX since new, I've finally decided to replace stock shocks. I'm going with Progressive 444's. I've read all the other post and literature about more expensive shocks, 444's will suit me perfect. I'm going with heavy springs cause I'm 250lbs.
My question is 12 inch (stock) or 13 inch length? I'm 6'4" so I don't think the one inch will be a problem for me. For those of you that have gone with a longer than stock, has the handling been negatively impacted?
Thank you HDForum for this venue for questions and thank those that reply for taking the time to share you experiences.

Longer shock = longer shock stroke = better ride

I don't know the 944 well enough, but I agree with tj, choose the longer ones, to give their dampers the best chance!

As the others stated, going with longer shock will improve the ability of the shock to handle the irregularities.

Thanks for the replies, I went with the 13" shocks. I was hoping to hear how the handling changed, good or bad, with the new shocks. I am sure it will ride smoother with the new shocks. Hope the one inch longer shocks do not adversely affect handling, or anything else.

Remember a Street Glide is a 1" lowered in the rear Ulta or limited or what ever.

It will handle fine.

i just did 12.5" 412s and a touring link on mt street glide and the ride and handling are greatly improved. I should note that in the process I removed lowering blocks that were on the bike when I bought the bike so I feel like the results were better than just going to longer shocks.

I added 13 inch shocks to my street glide and like it better.
