Default communications idea

I would like a microphone that is not a headset. I only wear a 1/2 helmet and do not want to mount anything on it, or have to wear another item while riding. I believe there are places on our fairings where a mic could be mounted and out of the wind enough to be useful.

Anyone know of anything like this or have any ideas on how to make it work?

If you want it for CB use, I have a Harley Davidson CB mic, and the mount that goes on the clutch perch.

Will work on 2013 down models... Therefore... I'll sell, because won't work on my '14

no.

if you want to prove to yourself- mount your phone somewhere and turn on the voice recorder (or call your answering machine)...and try yelling at the thing while riding.

2.) you gotta be able to hear the other end of the line.

so you need some kind of earphones- and you need a mic where it can pick up a higher ratio of your voice to background, road, motor, wind noise.

A noise cancelling mic would be best

Mike

Hearing the other end of the line is no problem, my phone bluetoothes to the radio and I can answer the phone and hear who ever is on the other end, I just can not answer them back.

You are correct, it would have to be a noise cancelling mic of some sort and probably with a wind sock. May even need to be a directional style mic.

The mike has to have your voice be substantially louder than the background noises in order to filter them out. That's why they are placed in close proximity to your mouth. If you refuse to consider a helmet or body mount, about the only way I can see is to boom mount it on the bike so it's held close to you, or in a position you can bend down to. It's quite doable, it'll just look odd.

My suggestion is a Bluetooth type device, look into jawbone, they have some good noise canceling technology that was originally developed for military use

There are in-helmet headsets available that once installed stay as part of your helmet, out of sight inside, except for the mike boom.

Seems to me that would require a bluetooth mic. If your phone is like mine, it'll only sync to one bluetooth accessory at a time.
