Default 05 Road King Compensator Questions

Before I put the bike away for winter I started hearing a loud clunking noise coming from the primary when I start the bike. I heard about issues with the primary nut coming loose on 2001 to 2006 models. Before I ride the bike again I want to check the nut to make sure it’s tight. Should I just verify the nut is torqued correctly or are there other things I should check? Should I remove the compensator sprocket assembly and check it? If so, is there anything in particular I should look for from a wear and tear or damage perspective? Also, if you recommend I remove the compensator sprocket assembly can I do it without removing the clutch assembly? If the primary chain tensioner is loosened is there enough slack in the chain to take it off and remove the compensator or does the compensator and clutch assembly need to come off together?

Thanks for any suggestions!
