I was going to buy a Street Glide a number of years ago but decided to get a divorce instead (best decision ever). Soon after I bought a 600 sport bike while still sorta wanting a Harley. Soon found out that I really wanna go faster and hug corners so the very next year (last year) I bought a brand new Ninja 1000. If you are in Wash. state and seen a blue blurr go by on a mountain road that may have been me.
Couple weeks ago my girlfriend and I bought a 2008 Road King with 17K miles on it in the dark red. Seemed like a nice bike but on the way home after buying it the cap on the front right fork leg fell off going down the road and hit me in the foot. Got home and seen it was gone and sorta made me nervous. Got a new cap from a local performance repair shop that specializes in Harleys and decided to just have them do a 10K service to it since I have no history and they can go over it and make sure nothing else falls off it.
Very interesting going from a metric sport bike that is super tight and smooth to this American muscle bike that rumbles and shakes and loud as hell.
Looking forward to many miles with my girl on my back rumbling down the road. 75th Anniversary Sturgis here we come.
BTW I'm not getting rid of the Ninja!
Thanks guys, the Ninja is getting a few less miles in the last couple weeks that it has been nice here for sure. I was planning on doing some serious touring this year on it but the girlfriend doesn't like riding on the back of it. So I looks like the RK is going to be getting those miles.
Why not get the GF out on the Ninja....and then eventually work her way up to a Harley? That way you can get the serious miles in - and she can plonk her butt down on the other one....Some great advantages - you get the miles in.... and some quality time with the GF.....
You're gonna' get spoiled on that RK...Quickly...And I'm not sure I've ever heard a Road King...Or any other HD Touring bike, referred to as a "Muscle Bike".
No matter though, plenty of torque to haul you, your lady friend, and a few days worth of clothes about anywhere you want in comfort.
I fought with myself over getting rid of my 1200 sporty when I bought my RK this last summer. I wanted that lighter bike to run around locally with and to speed around on. Had to trade it in to work out the RK deal, but Ill tell ya, it would've been sitting, cause I cant get enough of the RK. you make a good choice.
