have a 06 steetglide with a dakota digital antenna mounted inside the fairing, when ridingmy reception is fair at best, i have the removable trunk so an antenna is out. i'm thinking maybe an antenna booster??? suggestions please.
Hey Moe. I have the same setup on my 07 and I agree that the reception is only fair at best. My house is less than 30 miles most of the major radio stations and reception is fuzzy and cuts out from time to time. My car has an antenna internal to the rear glass and has no issues.
I'm really curious what others will say on this topic. I"m approaching the 1k mark and may ask about it when it goes in for service.
I used the Dakota Digitalantenna last summer when I put a radio on my Standard. I too am not pleased with the reception, especially what the Dakota Digital antenna cost me. One of the partsmen at the local dealership thinks that antenna is too powerful. He said they have been selling a different style hidden antenna. It is made by Metra Antenna Works and is called "On Glass Micro Screen AM/FM Antenna". The part number is 44-UA25. There is 54" of cable length, a box with two sided tape.Out the other side of this box ismaybe 36" of sticky tape that has the micro screen on it. It kind of reminds me of a rear window defroster. I am going to try this after I get my radio back from repairs.
Thanks for the post JDean. I'm really dissapointed with mine. Completely lost reception on the way home for work today and I was no more than 18 miles from their station. Granted it was only for a about 5 seconds but it's annyoning as hell. Same station comes in just fine in my cage 60+ miles away.
I really hate to consider it but I might end up adding the mounting hardware to my tourpak and getting a standard HD whip anntena or one from J&M. I really like the clean look without a whip style antenna, but my experience with the Dakota Digital is driving me mad!!
After hearing the poor reviews on in-fairing antennas, I tried another approach. I have an 06 SG with a removable tour pack. I took the original antenna mount off, made my own mount out of a chrome strap I had, and mounted it on the same bolt as the tour tour pack mounts. then I cut the original antenna down to about 32" and tilted it back at about 45 degrees. It's black so it doesn't show all that much, but when it does, it sort of looks fast and more streamlined. The tour pack clears the antenna and my reception is just about as good as it was originally. Just an idea.
