Anything would be better than the stock speakers, but to be honest with you I'd just wait. Even if you go with 6.5s they will sound a little better in the garage, but after you get used to them your ears will be bored again soon. Save your coin until you can pick up a cheap amp and speaker take offs and you'll be much happier. I started by just upgrading speakers, soon realized I really needed an amp to wake them up and then finally got smart and went the full biketronics route and won't need another upgrade. You can probably pick up a pair of Kappa 62.11s, adapter rings, and a PBR 300x2 used off the forum or fleabay for under $200 shipped and that would be a million times better than just spending $50 or $75 on speakers and not having an amp.

Simply swapping speakers is not going to be life changing. You WILL need and amp to wake them up. My recommendation is to wait and save some more money. Throwing a $50 set of speakers in is going to be a waste of $50 you could put towards sme better speakers. If you really want to change speakers put a set of Infinity Kappa 62.11i's in. At $110 they will be a slight improvement over stock without being amped. At least them you are ready for any future amps, Rockford Fosgate pbr300x2, Cerwin Vega B2, etc..

Edit.... FYI the Kappas are 2 ohm

I used the Polk MM651. I think they are a better fit as well as a better speaker.
2.7 ohms and more efficient. No loss of volume due to slightly higher ohm rating. And they will fit in the rear speaker pods with only new screw holes needed.

You can get caught up in trying to figure out what you may like. No 2 set of ears are the same. So it's subjective.
I tried so many amps and speakers it was getting old.
If you are limited on funds I would consider 6.5 alpine speakers. You want the 45/50 watt rms. you will lose a slight amount of volume but the clarity improvement is great. On a motorcycle there will be little bass when riding. The bike tronics are pretty good. Got a set that I had on my 07 laying on a shelf. Traded bikes, CVO street glide. I ,love the sound of the boom system. Good luck with your venture.

6 1/2 speakers will be a waste of money without an amp.

As a rule: Better speakers will provide clearer sound. More power will provide more undistorted volume. 4 ohm speakers will eat what little power ya have providing less volume. Infinity/JBL make good 2 ohm speakers.
