LRS Wind Blade buffeting solved

LRS Wind Blade buffeting solved
I recently purchased an LRS 9" Wind Blade windshield for my New/ Used 2013 FLHX Street Glide. I am 6' tall and ride with the stock saddle. I had a 7" LRS Elite on the bike prior. On my first ride with the new Wind Blade, I rode with my half helmet. The positive/ Negative pressure caused by the shape of the windshield caused my helmet to want to be lifted off my head. Almost like it was being vacuumed off. The next ride, I tried my full face helmet. The buffeting was so bad, I could not focus on the road at highway speeds.
On my old 2008 FLHX, I installed the Harley Factory fork mounted wind deflectors (Part # 57400146A), and I had a LRS 7" Ultra Windshield. When I added the wind deflectors on the 2008, it completely changed the air flow, and reduced the buffeting considerably. I took the wind deflectors off before I traded my 2008.
After getting a great deal on the LRS Wind Blade, not to mention it looks cool, I was pissed that I spent the money and couldn't ride without getting beat up by the buffeting. I went to a taller windshield to reduce the buffeting, not increase it. Then last weekend, I remembered I pulled the wind deflectors off my 2008. I found them in my shop, they bolted right up to the 2013, and off I went. Bam! Buffeting problem solved. At 70 MPH, it's incredibly smooth. The combination works great. I know a lot of people don't like the looks of the wind deflectors on the forks. I personally don't mind it at all. The wind deflectors also increase the stability to the front end at speed. Overall, the combination of the Wind Blade, and the factory wind deflectors did the job.
Ps: The picture below is my 2008 FLHX before I sold it. I will be updating my Pic to reflect my new 2013 FLHX soon.

Yeah, it has more of a square shoulder on it. Not as rounded as the Ultra or Elite. Definitely creates a bigger shadow, but also more low pressure behind the shield. The low pressure pulls air from around the tank, and mixes it up with the wind going over the shield. The wind deflectors seem to break up the flow of air and cancel out the buffeting.
My shield is borderline too tall. Going up a hill, I am looking through the top inch of the shield.

Good write up and I'm always looking for solutions to minor problems. Wife is complaining with the 11" flat top, makes her helmet lift and bob around, not bad for me but the 7" and 8" are great for the city rides only. I was close to my local dealer and decided to see if they had these in stock. I was in the parking lot in minutes installing the deflectors you spoke of. On my way home it was night and day. I think the wife will be happy once again!
Thanks Dhizzle.
