Any issues with the lights not working after installation? I have power at the end of the wire harness but the lights do not function when pluged in. If hooked direct to a battery they work.

We recently discovered there is a manufacturing error on the illuminated windshield trim where the wires entering the connector were positioned incorrectly, rendering the LED’s inoperable. We have taken measures to resolve the issue for new manufactured parts. We apologize for the inconvenience. This part is covered by a 1 year limited warranty. See our warranty page for complete information and instructions for filing a claim: www.h-d.com/warranty.
Besides installing the trim and seeing if it works, is there any way to tell before installing? Can I visually tell somehow? I do know that some fixed them on their own. I'd love to see how hard it was to fix the problem.

Yes to both, you can tell by looking at the date on the box, or by looking at the wires on the plug to see what order they are in. It is simple to fix, just remove the pins from the plug and put them back in, in the correct position.
If a person is not capable or does not feel like doing this, they can go to the dealership and have the service dept. fix it, it is a warranty item and will be fixed free by the dealer. I just bought this item a week or so ago, and when I ask for the bulletin, the parts person ask me if I would like to have service fix it then, and I said no, I would just do it when I got home, so I took it and went.
I got a PDF copy of the service bulletin. You can download it here.
On the box is a date, mine was 11/19/14 - anything earlier than 2/12/15 is affected and either needs to be replaced or repaired. I repaired mine myself.
