I'm not familiar with the 2000's fuel pump setup, but if it's like the 2009, mine had these flexible pads on the bottom where it picked up the fuel. Make sure they weren't folded up when you installed it. And make sure your fuel line going to the quick disconnect from your fuel filter isn't twisted, or has a hole in it. And did you install a new fuel filter also?
new battery as of 5/14 has had bike for several years just started issues this year just replaced fuel pump last month went on 10 mile ride died 5 times turn the ignition off and on then it runs after replacing Pump will only run a few seconds and die fuel lines are good took it all out to inspect 59,000 miles on bike pump does prime everything looks good sounds good throttle is not being touched I see is working no fob no security
A few folks are wondering why the fuel pump was replaced.
I will guess someone was just replacing parts thinking it might have been the cause of the problem.
If the bike dies but then restarts after cycling the ignition on/off a few times then it might be the fall sensor also called a BANK ANGLE SENSOR.
The sensor that triggers when the bike has fallen on its side.
The safety device that triggers when the bike thinks it has been in an accident and fallen on its side.
I will guess the bike is being started on kickstand and i will guess the problem before happened after a turn or when the bike was on its side stand.
In 1999 there was a recal or TSB or warning because the bracket that held that sensor was bad thus allowing the sensor to trigger and make the bike think it had fallen.
BUT that was on 1999 bikes.
Look under the left side cover (clutch side). The side cover under the seat.
Is everything OK.
Are you 100% sure that fuel will shoot-out from the end of hose at throttle body.
As mentioned by others the fuel line connection itself...the connection on the hose....the connection of that hose to the tank...that end of the hose becomes worn and will not push-in and hold correctly to the tank and while the pump will prime it will not be able to push fuel.
Do not just look at the line...as explained in post #8...the end of the hose will look OK but you really need to look to see how it gets worn and does not seat properly.
Push that end up towards the tank and hold.
What are the results?
If bike has leaned over 45 degrees try cycling key switch 3 or 4 times, then start. My road king did this after I about dropped it. Worked fine after doing this.
