thinking about getting some new bars on my 08 street glide what brand do u guys prefer on your bikes? And can i use my stock clutch cable and all that good stuff i want to avoid buying the extension stuff so i have more money to buy other crap lol buying accessories are addicting maybe i need to see someone about that haha and input would be great
If you don't wanna change all that stuff out then 10"s will be all you can do. Clutch cable and brake line will have to be rerouted for more clearance even going with 10s. My advice, do it once and get the size you want. If you settle for bars that doesn't require a change in cables then your short changing yourself and you'll never be satisfied. Just my .02˘.
I have 12" Vindikta's, I don't think you can use your original clutch cable. I used Harley 38916-09a for the clutch and a brake hose extension and no issues running it the same way as oem. With that said, bypass the 12" and go for 14" and a 2" longer clutch cable... 10" is your limit with oem clutch cable and brake line. I think 14" is the limit for OEM wiring without using extenders.
Not all bars are the same width, so might need a longer clutch cable...
Good luck with avoiding the extensions! I just bought some Yaffe Monkey bars, and to be honest I had no idea what I was getting into. The extension kit cost more than the bars!!!
I've read that you don't really need the extensions with the Yaffe 12" bars, but my local wrench said that would require relocating some connectors or something and he insisted on the kit. I really couldn't argue since he agreed to install the bars for me for $250. I hear they are a real pain in the **** to install.
In any case, I guess 12s are iffy, based on who's doing the work, and anything above that you definitely need the extra length. I've heard the Yaffe 12" are taller than the Wild1 Chubbys, so you might have no problem using stock cables with those.
On my 2014 the dealer said I could get 12" bars without extensions. I talked to them today. I am going to stop in this week and see how they would fit me. They have all the Fit Shop stuff and will have a bike with those bars on it and then put on the same hammock seat I have so I can see about the fit.
