I have a set of the el cheapos and a set of the HD lowers that someone gave me. I replaced the rubber thing and the vent hardware (along with the regular hardware that everyone replaces). I swear that I cannot tell the difference between the fakes and the HD ones, EXCEPT that the fakes cover more of the crash guard on the outer covers that bolt on. The HD ones have a shorter arm on them. Neither bolt tight to my crash guards on my Street Glide. Not sure why but both have to be shimmed to be tight.
I used my fake ones all last summer and I loved them, I thought it would be way hotter but it wasn't. The body shop did a great job color matching and I bought the HD brand doors that snap on, the hardware for the doors and a few more pieces....
I have$350.00 all in, I couldn't come close to stock HD ones fir that. Nobody tells the difference.
I would do it again.
