I heard of guys changing connectors for security reasons but how many have just had them fall off? Mine did yesterday and luckily the other couple following us didn't hit it but it took some major road rash ? Dealers take care of this or is it gonna end up insurance company? I am thinking if I can to do speaker lids since the lid definately needs replaced and just re painting the bag? Any ideas?
Get the Brukus saddlebag kit when you get the bags fixed and never worry about it again. Can't help you with dealer or insurance. Had it just left the dealer?
There was another thread recently about a new bike's saddlebag falling off. Most people blame it on not fastening the Dsuz clip properly.
I don't know how the dealers react to that.
I am still a fan of saddlebag rails.
mine is a 2011, but I noticed over the weekend when I put the pin back in and twisted it, it was very loose. I noticed right away the silver washer had fallen inside the bag. Without that washer the pin doesn't have any tension on it. When you twist the pin it has to be squeezing the rubber grommet, or it falls out.
I had my bag with Brukus fall off two weeks ago on the freeway in rush hour traffic. Apparently the bolts had not been checked in a while. Luckily the bag did not get run over, the person whom it landed in front of stopped and it was Memorial Day afternoon rush hour traffic. Bolts were inside the locked bag and it went right back on super tight.
So, there is no fix all for this except for me to check the bag once a week. I added the bolts when my last set of bags got stolen. Good luck all the way around for me as always.
Regardless, bolts are more secure than stock pins any day of the week.
I open my bags daily one side or the other for one thing or another, I twist the pins when the bag is open, they NEVER move. But I twist them anyway just to be sure. Why can't others do that is beyond me. Plus the pins work well when used properly. Airplanes aren't falling out of the sky due to the pins failing so why are these bags falling off. Rails look bad also.
My left side bag fell off in rapid city SD at 75 mph It had some rash, incredible the little bit of damage really. The pins didn't come out the bracket that holds the pin came off. The bike was new at the time Harley didn't and won't do sh!! to help you. I was happy no one hit it and crashed, obviously the interstate was loaded with bikes.
