Thanks for the info on the antenna. I have been having some range issues and suspected the antenna. I thought most commercial CB radios put out about 5 watts so if these are only 2.5 that would explain some of the range issues.
I've got a technician/friend that can fix most problems on the CB. They are pretty simple and straightforward. And he can do it a whole lot cheaper than that other place. His only problem is he needs the bike to work on them because he doesn't have a HD radio and all the cables for testing. I've let him use my bike in the past, but that is a pain to do on a regular basis. The most common problem, and simplest to fix, is the antenna/coax. Several good threads on here about that. The standard CB is limited to 4 watts.
I know this is an older post but recently I was out riding and went over a train depot for Amtrak and I had CB on as the last time i used the bike I was with a friend who also has cb...Anyway radio picked up the cb interference from train and since then when I go to turn on cb or intercom buttons neither will turn on.....at first I was able to get the cb on but then it would just lock up on cb and I would have to turn off radio to unlock it. however now I can't get cb or intercom on......to power up? looking for help to get the cb back on....thru radio. Unfortunately I think it is a wonderful harmon Kardon radio problem.
Word of advice: don't get overly optimistic with the CB's performance. I have yet to receive a reply from anyone on the interstate. I know my unit works because I was able to communicate with my wife using a handheld. I was in the garage and she was in an upstairs bedroom. That's a whooping range of perhaps 200 feet.

Since I belong to a Hog chapter, we use the cb on all of our rides to move our groups safely.....so I was hoping to get some feedback if someone ran into same issue.

If you like, I can run a very unscientific test to see what kind of range a handheld and bike can achieve. PM me so we don't clog up this thread.
Well problem solved......once again replacement radio **** the bed again, luckily I had a spare just for this reason. Swapped out and back up and running.
