Just bought two HD communicators for my 08 Ultra. The intercom works great but I can't get the Cb to work. It won't transmit or receive not matter what I do, any suggestions?
Jeez..it's turned on
squelch is about half or less.
Hit ppt and you can hear yourself in the headset but the next bike can't receive me, and I can't receive him.

If you can hear yourself the unit is probably broadcasting. Make sure that the bike you are trying to contact has all his stuff set right.
It may be a problem with your unit then. The only thing I can think of is to check the CB antenna and make sure it is connected to the radio unit. Also check to see if the fm and CB antennas may be swapped. I think the CB is on the right side.
So I took off outer fairing and checked antenna plug, all good.
Pulled out trunk liner and checked connections there, there may have been a ground issue there. Need another bike to check with.
If that doesn't work, it's probably the cb module.
I have been pricing used units on ebay, my only question is what is the difference in the part numbers? Most of the units have the same number but end in a different letter. 76236-06, 76236-06B, 76236-06C.
New part # is 76416-06C

I had the same issue with my unit after installing the gps module and hog tunes amp. I thought I had messed something up pretty bad. Tech advised me to Remove my 50amp fuse on left side of bike and let it reset. Has worked fine ever since. worth a try?
The chicken band radios on our touring bikes output about 2 to 2.5 watts into a 50 ohm load. The feedline and antenna presents a very inefficient load to the transmitter, reducing usable range. But it will work at short distances. The ground issue is important for the shitty antenna to do it's pitiful thing. Would be nice if you had an rf power meter you could put in line and see what's what. That would tell the story. I bet it's ok, just adjust your squelch to a threshold just above the noise. Then ensure that your buddy has his radio on the same channel and that his squelch is not turned up too much or he won't hear you no matter how close you are.
Here's what the antenna coil looks like inside. There is a little hair-sized wire that connects the coil to the whip and another that connects the coil to the spring base. If the antenna is flexed too much, one or both of these little wires break and the shitty antenna is now worthless. You can see a picture below of what's under the plastic cover on the base of the cb antenna. I now use a Hustler antenna and it's much better.
