I've noticed that my bike (2010 FLHR) has developed a squeak or chirp when I hit a small bump on the road. I originally thought it may be the tires chirping on hit pavement, until it did it on a steel deck bridge in 45 degree weather. I have bounced up and down on it while parked, checked for loose bolts and even had the dealer mechanic who is obsessively dedicated to his work, and he couldn't find the source. I can not tell for sure the location of the squeak but it sounds mid-bike area. I'm going riding again all day today and will try to narrow it down more. The bike has around 10,000 miles on it. Thx
Chirps are almost always the belt, either alignment, tension or both,
Ok. I'll definitely check the belt. Bike was just serviced and I trust both the dealer and his number 1 mechanic, but maybe a closer inspection will reveal something.
Check your rubber muffler support isolators. I had a annoying chirp / squeak on my 2010 and it ended up being the rubber isolators.
Good idea. Thx. I had a similar sound on my FXDL and it ended up being a broken motor mount rubber cushion. So I had my motor mounts checked at service too. The mechanic is so thorough on servicing that I saw he even lubricated my saddlebag hinges, my floorboard hinges and checked the torque on the hardware.
Check the heat shield clamps on your exhaust pipes. Those will make a high pitched metal squeak if a little loose, usually when warmed up. They look a lot like old style radiator hose clamps from the back side.
I cut a piece of inner tube, lubed it and slid it in while pushing the muffler mounting bar in place. It took up the slack and now it's a tight fit with no play to wiggle and cause the squeak. Still a full rubber mount but tight and secure.
