My wife and I were trying to get down to the Claw of the Dragon the 4th of July weekend but riding from the Ocean City area that is a 7 hour ride and we only have a couple days now to get away so I am thinking that trip is out for now.
We have done Skyline Drive a few times and the entire Blue Ridge Parkway twice and the Tail of the Dragon. Looking for someplace new and closer knowing we can always fall back on Skyline.
Any good rides in the Western Maryland area nice mountains curves less cars just peaceful motorcycle riding?
I need to do a little mountain riding all this flat is just flat.....
I don't have a specific route but I've been told the Deep Creek area is really good. I'm new to Maryland and it is on my list just haven't found the time yet.
Route 50 out of Winchester over to Aurora WV is a nice ride but not sure it is worth the 4 hour ride for you to get to Winchester. Just rode that route and then headed to Pittsburgh.
You ever thought about riding up in northern PA. PA Grand Canyon (Pine Creek Gorge), Alleghany National Forest, and Elk State Forest are all nice riding areas
I was just thinking, there is a lot in WV that might be worth the OP's time. I rather like Rt. 9, especially west of Martinsburg. There's a lot of good riding in MD (Frederick and Carroll Counties), but it's more piedmont than mountain riding per se. I like MD 17, which runs from Brunswick up to Wolfsville and then on to Smithsburg...but you have to get out into the pan handle to really get into the mountains. Mostly the way is taken up by I-68, with bits of US 40 available as alternatives. MD 219 out in Garrett County is supposed to be a nice ride, but I haven't tried it yet.
It is a nice ride in Maryland up old Rt 40 and Rt 144 from Hancock to Cumberland. If you have a day or so head down to the Seneca Rocks area in West Virginia. If so inclined ride the steam engine from Cumberland to Frostburg.
Take Rt 220 south out of Cumberland follow into WV through Keyser. Continue on south to Rt 50 west. Lots of turns up Allegheny Front. Black Water Falls is not far Or you can head back down the new road, spectacular view eastbound down Allegheny Front. That is Rt 48. It is a brand new dual hwy but with very little traffic. Jump off at Moorefield WV and head south to Seneca Rocks. Ride up Spruce ****, highest point in the state. Get a map and enjoy.
Had some buddies ride to Seneca Rocks then out rt 48. Sent me some pics back, I had to ask them were they riding on a closed hwy? All the pictures and no cars at all, they said it was weird. Brand new highway and no traffic on it for miles. WV does have some beautiful hwy's if you want to just get out and cruise.
Make it west to grantsville or somewhere in that vicinity and take rte 40 toward Uniontown pa. Nemacolin resort and casino with great fireworks in the area and even better riding. Ohiopyle state park then cross back over to coopers rock state park in West Virginia ?
I lived in Ocean City for 8 years but prior to that spent about 4 months living in a slope side condo at Will of the Wisp ski resort. Tons of great riding in the area. This time of year there is plenty of traffic on the main road but plenty of side roads. Really nice campground there as well that has log cabins I have stayed at when I went back for visits. Been too long ago to give details but really cool waterfalls around there as well.
