......just an update.......well, i took the bike up to the dealers on Friday. Of course, it did not act up at all. I had charged the battery again and this time the tender was blinking green or monitoring. i rode it the 25 miles or so north to Annapolis and the Harley dealer......of course, the voltmeter didn't budge and was working fine. the service manager came out and checked the codes and said it was definitely a charging system issue. they took it in and ran the diagnostics and they and said it came back with both the high voltage and low voltage indicators so it was likely the regulator. they had one in stock so they put it on. while it was there, i had them do the 35000 mile service. in conversation, he mentioned that the 2012's had problems with their regulators caused by heat. i guess he had a bunch of them in after the rolling thunder run that year. anyway, bunch of you guys were spot on about it being the regulator. I have the "cornerstone" extended warranty purchased through Jim Palmer at Kutter Harley and it took care of everything. Mike, the service manager, had never dealt with them and called them up to make sure what was covered and he got off the phone impressed. They even asked him about diagnostic costs which i guess few vendors do. they also paid them their shop rates, not an average of the shops in the general area. there was no deductible which also impressed him as Harley even has a $50 out of pocket expense. I know that lots of folks don't believe in extended warranties and that's fine and it works for you. Me, i plan on riding this at least another 50000 miles and it gives me piece of mind. cost of the replacement was about $325.00. Cost to me at the time of service was zero $$ which is the first step in recouping my original investment and a big step for piece of mind. oh, one last thing i can't say enough about he guys up at Rommel Harley Davidson Annapolis. I read the horror stories about other Stealers and cringe. Mike and they guys up there took care of my 2010 when i had it and now my 2013 and they're always great. I try and get the same service tech each time as he has always does a great job. I don't wrench so its nice to have piece of mind and know i can take it up there and not get a run-around.
