For better or worse, you guys convinced me!

Just picked up this 2007:

I'm so unbelievably over the moon about it. What a fantastic bike!

I am wondering something though....is it normal to take 3 or 4 cranks before the engine catches when starting?

And also...should I be able to feel the pipes through the seat? Yikes...that's some warm!

the motor gets some spins before firing- builds forward rotational force as the flywheels don;t have alot of mass.
The twincam motors are the largest displacement, highest compression and lightest flywheels...( the light flywheels allow the motor to rev up faster in operation).

there will be alot of heat coming off the rear header- the Y pipe.

there are mid frame deflectors to help shield the heat..."captain itch" for one...i wear thick jeans, sometimes chaps...even at 45şC+ it helps protect from the motor heat

looks like a nice ride- congrats!

double check your battery strength, it might be an old battery resulting in the slow cranking

If the bike has a tuner (and it may based on the air cleaner) try turning bike on and hitting starter immediately. I know my bike with PC3 likes to be started this way else it cranks longer if I turn bike on then wait a few seconds before hitting the starter.

my new sgs takes 3-4 cranks to start after sitting. Get used to heat.
