Thumbs up Getting my bearings...

A good after market bearing like Timken or *** should go for 2 or three tire changes. Good idea to get those OEM bearings changed out ASAP as I've heard stories of them failing at just a few thousand miles.

Same brand I use and they are GOOD for at least 20K miles or more. Also make sure to clean that Gremlin Bell every 1K miles to keep it working properly.

Most of Harley's reputation comes from those who own other brands. Do they have problems we all know of on occasion, yes. Are they perfect machines, no. Neither are the other brands and most of the problems any Harley will give you are caused by the fact we won't leave them alone and have to modify everything.

As a Master Technician I repair all brands, but when I repair a VW, Mercedes or BMW, their owners brag about how perfect they are while I am fixing it and they have the best reputation.
One word, plastic.

Not sure how reputations are made or earned, but the internet is not 100% reliable and personal experience is the best measure IMO.

Change wheel bearings every tire change? Or possibly every second or third tire change? Why?

I can see doing a bearing inspection at every tire change which I do but why change em if they're still good? That seems like a waste of money to me or maybe I missed the memo that said you should change em that often.

I have just over 60K on the original wheel bearings.........70K on my last bike with original wheel bearings............60K on the bike before that, 80K on the bike before that with the original wheel bearings.......You get the point.

I just got back from Key West with two friends.......One has 96K on his original wheel bearings, the other has 40K on his original wheel bearings. Buddy just left my house and he has just over 100K on his original wheel bearings.

So I really don't get the changing wheel bearings every few tire changes. Not trying to be a smart a@@ but can one of y'all fill me in on these crappy wheel bearings I should have already changed long ago?

You know what, I USED to be an Ebay ordering fool looking for deals. I have really curbed my ebay ordering because a lot of the stuff there is seriously poor quality stuff. The same can be said about Amazon. Whats the savings if you have to keep replacing stuff.
