Trying to change the rear brake pads and put some new brake fluid in. I'm stumped on step 4..."remove the caliper from the disc"
line is off, bolts are off, but the caliper does not clear the wheel and disc to come free...what am I missing, something stupid and easy i'm guessing....
Rock the caliper back and forth across the rotor to open the pads a bit. It takes some force pushing the pucks back into the caliper a bit. That should let you remove the caliper at more of an angle. (At least it works that way on my 2000! )
here's another quick question. I did the front brakes last week (went smoothly for those that helped me out..)...the pad 'kits' came with new pads and new pins only.
the rear pad 'kit' is more of a kit....it has templates, a little tube of grease and a scraper to help apply it in the right spots....were the front pads kits supposed to have that stuff too?
I've only replaced the pins once, about 5 years ago when the bike was ten years old and had maybe 75,000 miles on her. The rest of the time its just been straight pads with a cleaning of the pistons (followed by a wipe down with WD-40.)
