Changed out bars and now check engine light is on!
Has anyone else encountered this. I changed out my bars yesterday on my 2015 SGS and although I did have a hiccup, when I got it all together I had no throttle response and after retracing my steps I discovered I had rewired the TBW plug slightly wrong. Now all is fine but the check engine light is on. I went for a 30 min ride to see if it would go off but no luck. Any thoughts, also is it possible to check the codes without a reader? Help is much appreciated.
Ok I figured out how to check the codes. They are P1510, P2122 and P2138. Are these safe to clear? If so how do you clear them? I hold down the button on the code until it says CLEAR but they do not go away. Do you need to turn on the bike for awhile?
You need to ohm out the wires coming from the twist grip sensor to the ECM to figure out which ones are messed up. Refer to your wiring diagrams and ohm them out. the sensor 1 and sensor 2 wires operate 180 degrees out of each other. It sounds like you have a problem with TGS1 wiring. I'd ohm them out before I took anything apart though. Your MC probably won't go above idle either.
More than likely that green plug is gonna be your problem , save yourself slit of time and aggravation and either cut it out and solder or go buy the CVO tbw.
Even though the green plug went together it is fragile and sounds like there is a poor connection, the pins inside the plug are easily broken.
I appreciate all your responses and advice but if the bike rides fine with no throttle issues is it possible that the codes came from when I fired up the bike when the plug was wired up and connected incorrectly? It is strange that I cannot seem to clear the codes.
Is it going into parade mode? Does the cruise work? This is what happened to me when I put my BR's Custom bars on my SG. I had to take the bars off and pull the TBW bundle out far enough to cut the green connector out and solder the wires directly. Works fine now.
The light stays on while riding and I haven't checked the cruise control but will when I get home. I rode it again this AM and it all feels fine. Very strange.
If the check engine light is staying on while your riding then the code is current. If the light came on after you started the bike and went out after 10secs or so then that's a historic code that was fixed. Your more than likely gonna have to do away with the green plug one way or another. Or you can ride it out and wait for it to fail. Your call.
