yeah, except when it starts to rain, you remain cool and calm while your buddy starts scrambling to either put his phone away, or cover it with a plastic baggy

Spend the money and get the Garmin 660 or 665 Zumo. These interface with your Harmon Cardon with instructions coming through your speakers or headset. They are also Bluetooth and you can pair your phone. They have an Micro SD card slot so you can have a bizzillon hours of music at your finger tips and it all works through your radio.

I've been using the TomTom Rider, the windy road feature works great. They just released their new redesign and if you're a AMA member there is a discount. For the price it is a good option that is designed for motorcycle use.

Still using my iPhone in lifeproof case running google maps mounted on bars. One of these days when I don't have other stuff to spend on the bike I'll spring for a dedicated gps.
They do look nice though.
