you can go from fine to coarse but not coarse to fine....listen to choochoo, he's right on the money...the rest will shut that smart mouth the first time they strip one
will go to the auto part tuesday and see what they have.
got under the bike with flashlight and noticed that the hole threads in about 1 inch deep easy....the drain plug is only 1/2 inch threaded...that first 1/2 inch in the trans pan is clean now with the strip-out but it does leave the other 1/2 inch threaded hole..whats up with that? space for magnet to catch stuff??
got the long aluminum string (strip out) off the bolt and remnants left in the hole out...looks like i got 99% actually counted the turns of the stuff...i will refill the trans. and flush out when the repair is made (just in case)..
thank you again.
will update with results.
thank you to choochoo and Bryan TTM
thank you again, bought the 1/2-20 oversize SELF TAP magnetic plug at napa for about $7 with plastic washer.
installed it put some trans. fluid...drained and refilled..everything is good no leaks on test run..i also bought the piggy back drain plug just in case (double oversize) but did not need..
thanks again for your help...info/ priceless and $7 nice!
oh by the way it is nice when you go to the autopart and tell them exactly what you need rather than the scratch your head and move your fingers deal..
thank you.
Glad it worked for you.

I'm glad your repair was successful. That must have really pissed you off. I've done it before; not on the H-D, but on an ATV. I'm glad I bought a service manual before I did my H-D trans., because had I not checked the torque spec, I surely would have done the same thing. Its a fairly light torque spec.
