Default Tour pack rack adjustment?

Hey guys, so I have a detachable tour pack rack with the quick release hardware.....the hardware has always been tight but then all of a sudden I couldn't attach one side anymore.....the quick release latch is tighter on one side and the other side is so tight I can't even lock it down by hand....what's the deal?

Is there any adjustment I can do...I took it apart and saw the little shim and it doesn't seem like there's too much to alter...I tried using the shim, using something thicker....tighten it , loosen it etc....I don't really know what to do.....I mean I know it's supposed to be tight but cmon!.....any help would be appreciated....ryan

Try some type of spray lubricant on the docking points....you'll be surprised. I reapply it to mine every time I wash my bike.

I use a silicone spray. Spray it on a rag and wipe it on the docking points.

When I installed my docking kit the instructions said that the docking points are elliptical so that the tightness of the fit could be adjusted. Try loosening the bolt that holds the docking point and see if rotating the point makes the install a little easier.

You could try loosening the docking points some to where they move around, then close the latches and retighten if you haven't already tried that.

Have to love these forums. I just bought a Street Glide and was having the same problem. loosened the rear docking post, gave it a quarter turn and tour pack latched on no problem.

First, give it a squirt of WD40. Fixes all manner of things, even if silicon is better, which you can do later. Second, take a look on the H-D website for the installation instructions, if you don't have them. Go to the Shop tab and, having found your rack, select Guides.

I don't recommend WD40 as a lubricant. It was developed as a water displacement agent...hence the WD...fortieth formula...if you use it as a lube, I've observed that it will repel future applications of real lubricants...it displaces them like it does water.

If you use spray silicone on your bike and it gets on your paint, God help you if you ever decide to refinish your tins.

I've found that Tri Flow is an excellent lubricant. It's available as a spray or in a drip bottle.

On the other hand, WD40 worked REAL well on points ignition that got wet.
