Agreed, I would do some troubleshooting first to be sure the module is bad. Maybe the Harley tech is trained to replace the most expensive part first if a customer comes in without the ESP?
I also have an '09 with ABS and a few hundred miles over 40k, first bike with ABS and don't really like it too much but guess it is a nice feature to have to get a better insurance rate. My car had ABS, disabled the system when it had 30k miles on it and it now has 294k miles on it and never missed having it.
My ABS hasn't worked on my since I bought the bike . The bunch of HD monkeys had it for 2 weeks and couldn't figure it out. I just pulled the fuse and don't worry about it. I think too many people rely on these thing to the point they get themselves into trouble. I've been riding for over 50 year without it and haven't needed it. Improve your riding skills is the key. Not beating you up, just pointing out what maybe a problem.
Questions to see if it is the ABS .. rear pedal is Solid like a brick ... Generic troubleshooting ... rear Master Cylinder... Bleeds no issue follow it to ABS block labeled MR Bleeds, from the BLOCK R to rear Caliper Nothing no fluid
from the block to the rear ... So I blew out the rear from the caliper to the ABS Module --- any thoughts or is it a 400 dollar part not including labor
I dont get a ABS light on... Just the normal blinking when Starting up..
Curious how fast were you going when the tire locked up? I don't think ABS does any good from 25 mph or less, so it may have been a normal occurrence, you weren't specific but guessing here the codes you may have got were sensing a wheel lock up, which is what happened.
Not true, linked brakes become inactive below 25 MPH but ABS remains active through all speeds.
OP - Sorry to hear that you had a bad experience and have to endure the expense to get it fixed.
Wiring harness on left's side at neck...the main harness that goes up into the fairing will kink off the abs wiring and it will break the wires...unless the module went bad but lots have had the wire break
Wire from harness by left side of neck was made too short. Had mine break just inside the harness, took the HD mechanic 2 hrs. to find it ( under warranty )
A year later it broke again because although he fixed it he did not lengthen it.
I repaired it the second time and added about an inch and a half of wire, been good for years since.
But my light stayed on when it went, and it threw codes specific to the front sensor.
