5K service: anything besides what's in the manual?
Just wondering, beyond the services listed in the owner's manual for the 5K service, is there anything else required?
I guess I'm asking because all the 5K service items are quite simple, and I was wondering why anyone would go to the dealer for them????
I have an electronic copy of the shop manual but I didn't see anything in there.
There isn't anything else required...pretty simple for most mechanically inclined. Some people just don't like to work on there bikes or have service plans on there bikes.
I went over every nut and bolt on my bike( 2013 RKC). The upper shock bolts were NOT torqued and were just past finger tight. My rear wheel was misaligned causing the drive belt to rub on the edge of the rear pulley and chafe creating a mess of rubber on my pipe( took it to the dealer for that). I adjusted my clutch per the manual as i had too much free play. Everything else fell within spec. I go over my bike thoroughyl before and after each long road trip for safety sake and actually found a lag screw in my tire after my Milwaukee trip last year. I got a new tire due to my tire warranty and was glad I caught it before it caused any more damage. Like you, i don't see anything real complicated about the services and don't mind the garage time checking the bike out.
This can help you in future issues of what should be done. As well each service time can be printed and documented for your warranty. When buying oil, filters, o-rings,etc..keep receipts and attached to the printout for that service interval.
