Unfortunately, I will not have time to wait on these. I didn't know I was going to run into this problem or I would've been more prepared. Oh well, live and learn.

My method consists of taking a small piece of steel wool to clean out the inside of the exhaust port in order to remove any debris which has stuck in there. I just put my finger on a small piece and swirl it around a time or two.

Then I smear some Vaseline or other grease all over the exhaust port and the new exhaust gasket. I then carefully push the gasket into the port using my fingers. Once it has gone in as far as possible using pressure from my fingers I use a large socket and very gently tap it in the rest of the way using a small ball peen hammer. The secret, if there is one, is using the lubricant on the gasket.

With that pipe I would try the SE gaskets as an alternative.

Don't know why it done that. Cannot get the front one in at all. Tried pushing it in by hand like the rear one with no luck and tried getting it started then using old pipe and flange to push it in, also with no luck. It just messed it all up. Thought about using some sandpaper on the gaskets to touch them up a bit. What do you all do?

Give this a try...

I installed the tapered type exhaust gaskets but I would think the tool would work on both types of gaskets. I bought mine from Mac tools but I'll use them at work. If I wanted to save a buck or two I would have got them from Harbour Freight. It did a great job of holding the gasket still while I pushed the gasket in.

Went to Harbor Freight and bought the bearing race driver set. Put the gaskets in the freezer for a little while. I put the gasket on the driver and pushed them right in. Worked like a charm. Thanks for all the suggestions.
