My clutch cable is getting pinched between the frame and triple trees when the bike is on the jiffy stand. The service manual states down the left side of steering head and then between engine guard and front of left frame down tube.
I assume this means behind the engine guard? Also what's the big spring on the cable for down by the transmission cover? Seems to have no use other than rub on the engine mount and harness?
Hard to tell from the pics you posted but it looks like a non-stock cable that someone installed wrong. It should come out of inner fairing and go down behind the engine guard on the left then cross over in front of the down tubes and underneath the oil filter housing and rear master cylinder and under cam chest and back to clutch release cover.

That would have been me, it's installed in front of the engine guard. I'm going to replace it out. I don't like how it's been pinched. What do you guys recommend for a replacement? Magnum seems popular.
The clutch cable should go over the engine guard on the left side. It looks to me like the cable might be too short to route it properly. It's better to have a cable 2 inches long than 2 inches short. That's been my experience anyway.
