Hey guys need help, my 2007 ElectraGlide is giving me issues with the charging system, the battery at idle is below 12v.. when I rev it up on the road it goes up to 14 and higher when I really gun it down the road. I just replaced the regulator with a factory reg. thinking it may be the reason its not regulating it to under 14..what am I missing and what test can I do to fix this? Why is the voltage spike up?
Welcome to HDF from the UK. Over in the Tech Electrical section we have a couple of Stickies that give you the low-down on testing your charging system, which starts with checking your battery. You will need a multimeter and will be able to corner the culprit!
thanks for the replies btw, but heres the new problem, I got a new battery, install it, turn the ignition, hit run, hit start, hear a click and then nothing, nothing is happening, no lights, no crank, nothing... after checking all the fuses in the box all are good, but there is a clicking sound as I get closer to the bike coming from a relay that is next to battery mounted on frame in a rubber boot or cover of some sort. I know its not related to my other issue, but any ideas on how to figure this **** out? thanks again guys..
Bike still won't start, replaced the everything relay, new battery, now i have lights, hear the fuel pump prime when i turn ignition switch and run, but nothing when i hit start. voltage at the switch and past switch when pressed, any ideas? anybody?
if it is not cranking, then your alarm could be active ( the fuel pump will prime even without an alarm fob present)
the machine could be confused- pull the maxi fuse out for 3 minutes, while it is out, turn ON the ignition switch for a moment.
or you have a problem.
test:
put bike in Neutral
get a 3 foot piece of wire and crimp a terminal on the end ( female).
at the starter solenoid, pull the green wire off and attach your wire.
touch the other end of the wire to the battery + terminal.
it should crank
if it doesn;t then we look elsewhere. if it does crank then we can guess we have a problem in the starter primary circuit...which is system relay, starter switch, kill switch, wiring and teh starter relay.
the starter relay is adjacent to teh lighting relay and can be swapped with another relay of teh same type- you can try swapping for a quick check.

I don't have a fob or alarm system , I've swapped batteries before and had no issues, is there a test I can do on the TSM to test it? I tried to jump a wire to the starter solenoid but nothing happened, did not crank. Is it possible that the TSM could have anything to do with this even tho I don't have a security system?
