Default York Open house, a bit disappointing

Rode out for the open house on Friday, I guess I was expecting a big event. They have a very little vendors, the demo truck, and a self guided walk through of the plant with nothing running.

I have been to dealer open houses that were better then this. Anyway, here are a couple of pics.

weird WLA "tribute"- considering there are a few thousands of the real ones around

I did it some years ago and the tour another time...early 90's, I think you were allowed to see more than they allow now.
Workers off the line would break off and talk about their work.
Inspiring

I went out a couple years ago. 4 of us. Took route 30 from East Liverpool out through Gettysburg. Stopped at the Flight 93 memorial. Basically made a day of the ride. Great trip with good friends. The town was really hopping, restaurants and bars had a lot of vendors and what not. The facility is quite impressive. I do however, think I would like to go back for the steel toe tour. It would be more exciting to see the place in action. The vendors at the factory were decent, but definitely more to do downtown. We road up to the local motorcycle tech school. Had our bikes dyno'd for free. They had a cook out there, but we opted to eat at one of the local bars instead. There were some things that happened, I won't discuss on a public forum (to protect the innocent). We enjoyed the weekend and the ride out. Coming back we hit rain just west of Gettysburg, and didn't let up till Somerset. We still talk about it when we're drinking, so it must be one for the books.

I have taken the York Tour a couple times, but never made it to the Open House. Maybe in a couple years I will make it there.

I have taken my scoot by to see the "mother ship" again as well... It was sunday though and they were closed.

The Kansas City open house was the same way. Still enjoyed riding some new bikes. The attendance seemed way down from the last couple of years. The daredevil stuntman Bubba Blackwell put on a good show and he did a fairly nice crash. Luckily he didn't seem to get hurt.

We rode out last year, and it was pretty full. Lots of people seemed to be taking the self guided tour, and of course the wife had to stop at every dealer tent. Went on Saturday so standing in line for a test ride was out. Checked out some of the new touring bikes, talked to a worker from H-D... He seemed very knowledgeable... In fact more so, than any sales person I have ever spoken with. All in all I was disappointed with the overall experience.
We planned on giving it another shot yesterday, but till we got to Bube's Brewery ( Mt. Joy) my enthusiasm for the York Open House dropped.... Wasn't in the mood for Rte. 30 traffic... Ended up riding up thru Hershey and around Lancaster County, back into Berks and then up into Lehigh and over to Montgomery and then home... Nice 215 mile one tank trip.

Thursday is what I'd consider the best day for the open house.

The factory is usually running, less waiting for the demo rides...
