Default High Idle issue

Hello all,

I recently purchased a 2009 Electra Glide Ultra Classic and I have developed a high idle issue. I have tried to google it and read through forums but haven't seen anything yet similar to my problem.

the last few rides I have went on, after I stop for a break, when I restart the bike it is idling at around 2500 RPM. I was thinking the TPS but then I found this article about the 09 having the ETC and I am at a loss now. The ignition reset seems to work but I would rather fix the problem causing it? Any thoughts? Last I checked the bike is not throwing any codes?

This article was posted a few weeks ago when someone else was having an idle problem.

http://www.roadglide.org/28-troubles...must-read.html

This paragraph is near the end of the article:

Built into the system is a reset function. If the ignition is turned off with the throttle in a position other than 0 percent throttle, the system wants to use a higher rpm as the new idle speed the next time the engine is started. If you shut the bike off at 1,800 rpm, the next time you start the engine it will use approximately 1,400 as the new idle speed. To keep this from occurring you can reset the idle by turning on the ignition switch until the fuel pump cycles on and off, then turning off the ignition. Repeat this three times and the idle speed will be reset to normal, 1,000 rpm.

My 2008 used to do that. It seems to be a problem with the throttle being advanced slightly when using the kill switch to shut it off. Cycling the ignition would solve the high idle issue. Once I quit using the kill switch and used the ignition switch down on the frame to shut the bike off I had no more issues with it.

I never do use the kill switch.
Don't see the point?

My buddies 08 is doing this same thing. I'll have to try that reset. Great info on here!

No Shat! Learn something new every day it seems. I use the kill switch because it is so convenient right there at my thumb. Then shut off the ignition switch. Has never been an issue though I'm always at idle when shutting down. '07 Road King EFI of course. Was never an issue with my old carbed EVO. :-)
