Damn, no clue why you would leave it running, maybe he lost the fob, hope he's ok. I always stop pumping and let the nozzle drip to not drip on the tank.
Still investigating, doesn't matter the circumstances, don't wish that **** on anyone I had my 30 yr old son get 3rd degree burns over 80% of his body in a industrial accident, not a nice thing. Poor thread title.

Sorry about your son.. I have young kids myself.
I'm so careful not to spill a drop on my bike and probably look like an idiot pumping gas to most people hovering over it. I think I would notice if i was standing in a pool of gas.
you might think the engine was hot enough to ignite the gas but I think it may have been a static charge built up somewhere in all the plastic gear. I really dont think the engine is hot enough even when running to ignite gas without pressure. All the fumes needed was a small static charge and poof. Thats why they tell you dont load up plastic gas cans inside the back of your truck. Always put them on the ground.
They stated the he left the bike running while refueling it, and if you watch closely you'll see the fire start at the back of the bike and flash forward as if it was ignited by the exhaust. These are the reasons they say to shut your vehicle off before refueling, discharge any static build-up you may have by touching the bike before refueling, don't smoke while refueling, and above all pay attention to what you're doing, if you look at how far the fire goes in front of the bike he must of had one hell of a puddle of gas underneath it.
The witness/hero that helped extinguish this individual said he was yelling at him that he was overflowing gas. The rocket surgeon had his radio cranked and didn't hear him. The store owner/clerk said he could hear the radio inside the store. This thread will get merged with the other one in the General discussion section soon. I started one in off topic and the mods moved it.
