makes me think that in addition to taking off the weights... we should cut the valve stem before dropping them off.

I'm thinking I read somewhere that 90 degree stems causes balancing issues?

I pull the wheels myself but have the shop mount and balance. If they ever pulled my 90 deg stems and REPLACED them with standard valve stems, I WOULD REALLY BE PISSED!

Thanks, looked it up. There are two sizes, 11.3 and 8.3mm. Which size fits Harley?

Shop should ask customer if they want new valve stems (at additional cost) or reuse the old ones.

Most of the higher end tire shops change out (and charge) for new valve stems with every tire change.

I'm on my 3rd rear tire and the first 2 times the shop didn't change the stem. The stem started to leak so I bought a metal steam for $2 and had them install it with my 3rd new tire.

Last time I dropped off a tire it was a nightmare. I taped the new valve stem to the new wheel over the valve stem hole. They did not install the new stem, instead they taped it back on the tire, stated I did not ask for it to be installed. Same wheel/tire, now with the new stem is half flat when I got it home. They did not use the washer under the nut and the stem leaked from not being tight enough. Next tire change will be at home with a No-mar.

Called the shop and they told me that they normally do not change the valve stems. They said they will replace the bad one and not charge me for the tire removal. So all and all a happy ending. Thanks again
