I have a 2000 FLHRI Road King. I love her, I just need more gear for highway riding. I can't afford a Street Glide, so I figure a six speed trans is the next best thing. Anybody know anything about putting a six speed into a RK?
Unless you have put a lot of cash into that bike, it may just be cheaper to upgrade a few years and get a Road King that came factory with the 6 speed, and a larger engine to spin it.

It's a nice thought, but with no money to speak of and doodoo for credit I figure I can just get this bike just right. In reality this may be the only Harley I'll ever be able to own. Aside from a Sportster frame that I keep saying that I'm gonna bob. lol

One other solution depending on how much taller a gear you're looking for is to switch out the rear belt pulley to a 66 tooth from an 07 and switch the belt out to the corresponding shorter belt. It's about a $300 parts bill if you do the work yourself and nets about a 6% taller 5th gear which makes a big difference in highway fuel mileage.

What do you need know? We have a six speed that will fit into your stock housing. Very quiet, very smooth positive shifting and it will lower your RPM's 500 at 70 mph.

Now, there's an idea. I would've never thought of that on my own. Keeps well within my budget boundaries.

I saw the DD6 while I was browsing through J&P Cycles catalog. It's a bit expensive. I'll be saving up, as I have always been impressed with Baker quality.

+1
Have been riding 5 speeds for several years. Recently bought a 2011 RK with 6 speed. 6 speed is nice, not necessary, when going OVER 70 mph if you have the tq/hp to use it. Unless you have a built engine, your bike will have difficulty utilizing the 6th gear.
